Today has been FAN.TAS.TIC. Better than yesterday, when,
I pulled out a periodical box with no back... Seriously, who does that?! Cyclist Touring Club Gazette everywhere. Sigh.
But now I have a long weekend, a free drink, and the picture I've wanted to take all week.
Ok, so it's some shoes. But life, they say, is about the little things.

Back After the Loong Weekend...
Four days, it transpires, is too long for any self-respecting weekend.
I had basically forgotten that I'd ever worked in a library. And I was not the only one. Colleagues were falling over, dropping books, getting classmarks muddled... I scraped my hand on the door, spent half the afternoon wearing bunny ears... Basically we went to PIECES.
(But not as much as the early vols of the Guardian, which it is impossible to properly fetch to someone- if we're talking, y'know, the whole thing, because some of the thing is
unfetchable.)
Basically,
was pretty low. And the slips kept piling in. But I suppose, at least we know the students need us. This is serious stuff, exams are approaching and who can blame them for putting in the extra study hours, sitting somewhere quiet to go over those notes and request academic material...

Snail, Woman, Flower, Star
This is how I want people to describe me. A collection of random nouns. Unfortunately, I'm not fussed enough to make myself separately flower-like, snail-like, star-like...
Completely unrelated:
I think anyone who writes a book on flirting is probably not the right person to ask for advice. Bit too calculated. Mirrored your body language here. Made eye contact. Breathed inwards through nostrils, out through mouth.
Apparently it's psychoanalytic:

That figures.

And Other Poems
Things haven't got any less busy but this (4-day!) week has been pretty good so far anyway. It's totally all about being able to see the bright side. Well, that and fetching things like this:
Yeah. You think you've misread it but you haven't.
Yeah. You think you've misread it but you haven't.
Someone's had a pretty bad dating experience...

Recap
Quick recap of the past few days:
VOID
Limp Pigs
Good Wood
Whore.
It's been pretty busy, so I've got a bit stressed, but not quite to the extent I need to be slapped or drenched in water a la 50s housewife. Still,
That told me.

Bit of Slap and Tickle...
Some catchy titles pertaining to 'bumping uglies':
Kinda creepy to use a sex reference for Mother Teresa, but I bet it boosted sales.
On a related subject, I went to the sex-dungeon-section the library the other day, and it turns out it's LAME. Barely any chains on the walls at all. And considering how much porn's published, there's a lack of that too. I find myself back where I started, asking the same question again - where is the porn?

Blasphemy, Pony, Time Turner
I've been so busy wondering what Jesus would do, I didn't even think about where he had gone.
(Un)Interestingly, I did always like the idea of Jesus: all that selfless, doing-as-you'd-have-done stuff seems like the ideal morality to have. I was never sure about God, though, and this has only confirmed my suspicions:
It's different, I'll give it that.
This weekend was a horsey event for me - Saturday was the Grand National, and won me absolutely nothing but at least 'my' horse started this year... Previous years = non-starter, died, pulled up...
My actual horse is a far cry from thoroughbred, which is probably a very good thing considering my luck in that department.
No idea why. I don't think it's necessary for any of the jobs here... Well, I didn't get a time turner, anyway. Maybe it's a loyalty thing.

Cleo (not thoroughbred)
In the tea room today, I noticed with wry amusement (and tea) that someone had a time turner sticking out their pocket, a la HP and the Prisoner of Azkaban:

Random Finds
Yay! It's Random Finds Friday! A day I have made up to avoid writing anything illuminating.
Have some pictures:
I also had my final induction day today (boo!) in which I learnt Cadbury's cocoa used to be marketed on the premise it is not 'starchy and indigestible' like the other brands. It also had the slogan: Pure-Soluble-Refreshing. Mm soluble.

Update
I realise I am writing less and less in this blog, just lazily posting pictures that have little or no relevance to actual librarianship or, well, life. So, for an update: I am currently undergoing induction, which has me visiting the library's other departments, such as maps (Why Not to Live in Cambridge When the Ice-caps Melt,) legal deposit, official publications, rare books (don't drop that) and music (Black Sabbath for the ukelele):
When not being induced (?), I've had Lunch Duty and got serious bananagram withdrawal.I've also begun to read a book I nickname the pet-death-book. It is an old-fashioned kids book (Thomasina) which begins with a vet putting to sleep a little old lady's little old dog, continues through him hating most of his animal patients, and peaks with him chloroforming his daughters pet cat.

Hot Classmarks and Extra-Curricular Activity
Yes that is L243:11.b.W6:3.1.D319.2... Catchy, huh? I'd like a child with that name. Or a robot. Clearly if they need that many figures they've come a long way since C-3PO.
Now, I don't want you to think I have no life outside the library because that's simply not true. I also have the walk home.
Followed up with a nice round of student-sat-precariously-on-wall:
